Obtaining the Gavel:
- The traveling gavel may be claimed from a lodge on any regular stated meeting or degree ceremony.
- Must be four or more members of a visiting lodge in attendance and all visiting members must stay until the close of the lodge of the qualifying event.
- In case of a tie in the number of visiting brethren:
- In case two or more lodges are competing at the same meeting the Lodge that has traveled the furthest will take possession of the Gavel.
General Rules:
- The Traveling Gavel must be placed in clear view of all visiting Brothers and may NOT be claimed until just before the close of the meeting.
- The lodge that lost the gavel cannot recapture the gavel from the lodge that took the gavel from them for 30 days.
- For the Gavel’s purpose and out of respect, visiting Brethren should be present from the opening to the end of a Stated Meeting. Late arrival forgiveness shall be at the discretion of the sitting Master.
- The traveling Gavel will not be in play at any District or Regional functions.
- The Traveling Gavel will be presented before closing the lodge.
- Although it is not required a small donation (by alms is best) on the night of acquisition would be appreciated in the box that accompanies the gavel, so that at the end of the year the winning lodge will be awarded half of the donations directly and the other half will be donated to a charity of their choice!
Any Lodge that takes possession of the gavel must report to the DDGL within 24 hours with the new location of the gavel. In all circumstances, it is necessary to report prior to any Stated Communication of the new holder. Which can be done on our 22nd District Website @ https://travelers.king-hosting.com/22nd-district-gavel-capture-submit !
